Good morning, The Woodlands.
Today the Township board votes on a $231,600 study that could define what an indoor rec center looks like here. Across town, a Magnolia teacher just crossed 5,000 student artworks published online. Two different news stories, built on the same instinct.
This community invests in its future on purpose. That is what both of these are.

Township Board to Weigh a $231,600 Indoor Recreation Facility Study
The Woodlands Township board of directors is meeting today to consider hiring Burditt Consultants, LLC for a $231,600 feasibility study on an indoor recreation facility. The funding would come from the parks needs assessment reserve.
The proposed task order breaks into three phases. The first, at $92,000, would have Burditt review existing township plans and gather input from community stakeholders. The second phase, at $100,000, would produce up to three facility concepts at varying sizes. If the board approves one of those options, a third phase priced at $39,600 would analyze the operation and revenue potential. An optional add-on of high-level concept drawings and 3D renderings could add $18,000 more.
If approved, the board would also consider a budget amendment to draw those funds from the parks needs assessment reserve this year.
Why it matters: Approving this study moves an indoor recreation facility from a budget line to a real design process, one that comes back with up to three concepts and a revenue analysis.

Magnolia Art Teacher Preserves 5,000 Student Artworks Online
Dana Pasket, the art teacher at Audubon Elementary in Magnolia, has published more than 5,000 student artworks on Artsonia, a digital portfolio platform where families can view and comment on student work. Pasket has been building the collection since the school joined Artsonia in 2024.
More than 1,000 family members and friends are now connected to student galleries through the platform. For families with relatives who live out of town, Artsonia gives them a direct window into the creative work their children are doing in school. Families can also purchase keepsakes featuring student artwork, and through those sales, Artsonia has donated more than $18 million to school art programs nationwide since 2000.
"Artsonia has helped build a home and school connection here at Audubon," Pasket said. "The families can take part in the students' art journey, and their celebration comments online are so touching."
Why it matters: Students at Audubon now have a lasting record of what they made, and out-of-town family members who have never been able to visit can follow along all year.

🌳 Woodlands Trivia
In 1972, HUD provided $50 million in federal loan guarantees under the New Communities Act to fund the development of The Woodlands. It was one of only 13 communities funded that way nationwide. Most of the others failed. The Woodlands was the exception.
