Good morning, The Woodlands.

Twenty winning trolley names came from neighbors. On Nov. 7, we all find out which ones are going on the six new trolleys. The Nov. 21 hazardous waste drive-thru works the same way, a free service that does its job when residents show up. It's a small town habit worth keeping: the people who live here help shape the place.

Town Center's Six Trolleys Get New Names at a Nov. 7 Reveal

The Woodlands Township is inviting residents to the Grand Trolley Reveal on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Town Center Trolley boarding point along the southern edge of the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, near The Woodlands Waterway. Residents can see the new trolleys, discover their new names and be among the first to climb aboard.

The Township will introduce six new Town Center trolleys with refreshed graphics and names inspired by submissions to this year's Trolley Naming Contest, which produced 20 winning submissions. The event will also recognize the winners of the Trolley Coloring Contest, 12 winners across four age groups: 0 to 3, 4 to 7, 8 to 11 and 12 to 15. The four first-place winners will be announced ahead of the reveal.

The free Town Center Trolleys have served the community for almost 20 years and now connect Hughes Landing, Market Street, The Woodlands Mall and the Waterway. They normally run seven days a week, and riders can follow them on a real-time tracking map at woodlandstransit.com/Trolleys.

Why it matters: Residents picked the names, so the Nov. 7 reveal is the first look at what the neighbors chose.

Free Household Hazardous Waste Drive-Thru Set for Nov. 21

The Woodlands Township is hosting a free, one-day Household Hazardous Waste Drive-Thru on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sterling Ridge Park & Ride, 8001 McBeth Way. The Township's Environmental Services Department is putting it on with the Houston-Galveston Area Council and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Accepted items include aerosols, antifreeze, corrosives such as drain cleaner and pool acids, fire extinguishers, paint thinner and wood stain, latex and oil-based paint, motor oil and filters, pest bait and weed killers, bleach and ammonia, intact CFL and fluorescent bulbs, and 1-pound and 20-pound propane tanks. The event cannot take smoke detectors, needles and other sharps, biohazardous waste, radioactive materials, explosives, ammunition or other gas cylinders.

Residents stay in their vehicles while staff help unload, and a valid driver's license or utility bill is required as proof of residency in The Woodlands Township. Business waste and trailers are not accepted. Capacity is limited, so the event may close before 1 p.m. once it fills.

Why it matters: Items like paint thinner and pool chemicals can't go out with regular trash, and this is a single day with limited capacity.

Conroe ISD Ten Commandments displays

Conroe ISD Will Install Ten Commandments Displays in Classrooms

Conroe ISD says it will install Ten Commandments displays in classrooms as Senate Bill 10 requires, and expects to finish in the coming weeks. The district points to updated guidance from the Texas Attorney General's office that the injunctions preventing implementation have been vacated.

Senate Bill 10, passed by the Legislature in 2025, requires public elementary and secondary schools to display the Ten Commandments in each classroom, following specifications in Texas Education Code § 1.0041. According to the district, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld the law on April 21, 2026, in Nathan v. Alamo Heights Independent School District, rejecting challenges under the First Amendment's Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses. Conroe ISD had installed the displays earlier and removed them to comply with a court order in separate litigation involving the district.

Board President Misty Odenweller said, "Conroe ISD has followed state law and court orders throughout this process." Superintendent Dr. David Vinson said staff will coordinate installation so the displays meet the law's requirements. The district says it will keep monitoring legal developments and follow applicable law and court orders.

Why it matters: This is the second round of installations in Conroe ISD, after the first displays came down under a court order.

🌳 Woodlands Trivia

In 1982, George Mitchell established the Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) in The Woodlands, a technology and science hub intended to attract serious research to the community. It was part of his long-held belief that a livable community and cutting-edge innovation belonged in the same place.
