Good morning, The Woodlands.
The Conroe EDC's new executive director spent 18 years in Tomball, and one of the programs she led there gave young adults paid summer jobs. Closer to home, Lone Star College-Montgomery is putting students in front of local companies to practice networking. Different programs, same starting point: getting young people in the same room as the people who hire. If there is a student at your table thinking about what comes next, both stories are worth a minute this morning.
Glad you’re here,

Conroe EDC Taps Tomball's Tiffani Wooten as Executive Director
The Conroe Economic Development Council (Conroe EDC) has hired Tiffani Wooten as its Executive Director. Wooten has more than 25 years of leadership experience in economic development and most recently served as Assistant Director of the Tomball Economic Development Corporation.
During her 18 years in Tomball, Wooten assisted with projects that generated more than $490 million in private capital investment. She also led the Tomball EDC's Summer Youth Employment Program, which provides paid summer jobs for young adults across a range of industries and was twice awarded a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award from the International Economic Development Council. Before Tomball, she was executive director of the economic development offices in Sherman County and Wallace County, Kansas.
David Willard, Conroe city administrator and president of the Conroe Industrial Development Corporation board, said, "Her passion for workforce development and lengthy track record of securing transformational investments will continue to move Conroe forward."
Why it matters: Whoever leads Conroe's pitch to employers helps shape where new jobs land in Montgomery County.

LSC-Montgomery's Maverick MVP Program Teaches Students to Network
The Lone Star College-Montgomery Maverick MVP (Most Valuable Professional) program is a student-centered experience built to help students make connections, improve their confidence and prepare for future careers.
Matthew Samford, dean of Student Success & Completion/Retention at the college, said, "Building relationships is critical in today's work environment." The program offers panel presentations with companies so students can make the connections they need to be successful. This semester, students heard from representatives of PrefTech, a local company that designs, builds, migrates and services enterprise security environments, and BubbleUp, a full-service digital agency that helps companies with digital marketing, website development and eCommerce fulfillment.
Spring registration is underway. More information is at LoneStar.edu/MaverickMVP.
Why it matters: Panels with local companies give students a chance to practice talking with working professionals before they need a job.

In 1975, George and Cynthia Mitchell hosted the first Woodlands Conference, titled "Alternatives to Growth," after being inspired by the book The Limits to Growth. They also launched the Mitchell Prize, a cash award for the best paper on how societies can move toward sustainability.
