The building at 26333 Old Hwy 105 W has been a lot of things. It started in the 1940s as a feed store selling to ranchers around Montgomery. It served as public housing in the early 2000s. It became an eatery in 2021. Since December 2025 it has been 333 Bar & Grill, run by husband and wife Curtis Barker and Angel Wiener.

The couple already had roots here through 333 Tattoo Studio, with shops in Montgomery and Willowbrook. When the building came available, Wiener said she and her husband fell in love with the history and decided to open their own bar. The number carries its own weight for her. She describes the common spiritual meaning of 333 as growth and expansion, and something she has considered a higher calling.

What she did not do was gut it. "We're making some structural changes too. I like to call it a facelift, because the old girl has been around so long that in order to preserve her dignity, I don't want to change much. I just want to make sure that she's around for another 40 to 60 years," Wiener said.

The kitchen leans local. Meats come from Stone Cold Meats in Conroe, the bread from local bakeries, and the crawfish from Louisiana Cuisine Tomball when it is in season. The Big Boy Smash Burger runs half a pound of Stone Cold Meats smash burger with sauteed onions, American cheese, house-made sauce and a local baked brioche bun. Through the summer the bar has been rotating a frozen drink weekly, priced at $3.33, running from frozen margaritas to frozen old fashioneds.

The calendar fills the rest in: live music on weekends, brunch on Sundays, steak nights on Thursdays, and a steady run of birthdays and graduations. Wiener said a classic car show is planned for the end of August, and a partnership with the Montgomery VFW is in the works.

Why it matters: a building that has been useful to this community since the 1940s is still being kept useful, by people who could have knocked it down and did not.

Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Donna Hansen as Judge of the 523rd Judicial District Court in Montgomery County. The appointment takes effect September 1 and runs through December 31, 2028, or until a successor is elected and qualified.

Hansen lives in Conroe and comes to the bench from the other side of it. She is a division chief and assistant district attorney at the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, and previously served as an assistant district attorney in Harris County.

She belongs to the State Bar of Texas, the Texas District & County Attorneys Association and the Montgomery County Bar Association, and sits on the State Child Fatality Review Team Committee and the Children's Safe Harbor Board. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Houston and a Juris Doctor from Regent University.

Why it matters: the 523rd is a brand new court, and this is the person who will run it.

The Woodlands Township Board of Directors meets in special session on Thursday, September 3 to adopt the 2027 budget. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard.

Fifteen minutes later, at 5:45 p.m., the Board opens a public hearing on the 2026 property tax rate. That is the part of the evening where residents get to say something about the number that lands on their own bill.

Residents can attend either in person or watch online through the Township's meeting video page. Under state law, meeting notices are posted at least three business days ahead, both at the Township office building and on its website.

Why it matters: this is the meeting where the budget stops being a discussion and starts being your tax rate.
