Market Street has named all seven acts for its Fall Concert Series, seven straight Thursday nights of free live music running September 17 through October 29. Shows go 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., and the whole thing is open to anybody who turns up with a blanket or a lawn chair.

Danny Ray & Atlantic Street Band opens on September 17 with popular tunes from across the decades. One Night of Billy brings a Billy Joel tribute on September 24. Hybrid 7 follows on October 1 with drum and bass, hip-hop and soul influences, and the Chad Ware Band takes October 8 with country and classic rock, fronted by Tracy Byrd's longtime guitarist and vocalist.

SheWolf, a Shakira tribute band, plays October 15 in a night built around Hispanic Heritage Month, mixing English and Latin-inspired songs with the hits. Nervous Rex brings dance, pop and party favorites on October 22, and Little Queen closes the run on October 29 with classic rock inspired by Heart.

Why it matters: seven Thursdays of free music at a place with more than 70 restaurants and shops is a standing plan for anybody who would rather not make one.

The Woodlands Resort is opening its Forest Deck to the public on September 25 for Island Escape, a one-night luau running 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free for hotel guests and everyone else, though an RSVP through Eventbrite is required.

The evening starts with live island music and builds into Polynesian performances with hula dancers, male warriors, a Hawaiian band and drummers. Before the main show there are hula, hula hoop and limbo lessons, a build-your-own lei station and snow cones. A Hawaiian-inspired buffet at Harrison's is separate, at $75 per adult and $45 per child.

Why it matters: general manager Hank Reilly says the goal was something immersive and unexpected, and a free two-hour show at a resort most neighbors only drive past clears that bar.

The Woodlands Township is asking residents to walk their own neighborhoods, count the storm drain markers and report what they find on the Township's storm drains page. Anyone who reports five or more gets a free tote. The marking program runs in partnership with The Woodlands Water Agency to keep local waterways clean.

The same September bulletin reminds residents that household batteries do not belong in the trash or the curbside cart, because damaged ones can start fires in collection trucks. They can be dropped off free at The Woodlands Fire Department Central Station on Grogan's Mill Road, up to 11 pounds, including alkaline, lithium, laptop, power tool, e-bike and scooter batteries.

Why it matters: in a week the county is under a flood watch, counting the things that carry water off your street is not an abstract errand.

Tamina was not supposed to be spelled that way. The community was originally called Tammany, named after Tammany Hall in New York City by a promoter named James H. Berry. Whoever wrote the name down for the postal department spelled it "Tamina," the spelling stuck, and some of the older residents still pronounce it the original way.

"If a trip around the world cost a dollar, I couldn't get to the Oklahoma line." Translation: I am flat broke. It is the long way of saying it, which is the whole point.
