The Woodlands High School Art Trust has opened its application window for 2026, the 16th year the student organization has built its own art collection. Texas juried artists 22 or older can submit one piece online through October 4; the work has to be sellable, ready to hang, and school appropriate.

The whole thing runs on student money and student votes. It started in 2011 when Woodlands High students used Homecoming Dance proceeds to buy five pieces from submitted artwork, with the entire student body voting on the selections. Fifteen years later the collection holds 76 pieces, all chosen and purchased the same way.

A student committee narrows this year's submissions to 12 finalists, and the roughly 4,500 students at Woodlands High vote on which ones join the collection. TWHSAT, a 501(c)3, also runs a "One Hundred Friends of Art" donor program, with tax-deductible gifts starting at $10.

Why it matters: a public high school running its own juried art acquisition, funded and voted on entirely by its own students, is a real civic habit most schools don't bother building.

The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce has announced its speaker lineup for the 2026 Woodlands Area Business Summit, set for Friday, October 30 at the Hyatt Regency Conroe. This year's theme is "Thrive," built around a full day of sessions across five tracks: AI and business technology, business operations, leadership and management, legal and policy, and sales and marketing.

Keynote speaker Chris Westfall is the reigning US National Elevator Pitch Champion, a regular Forbes contributor, and the author of four books on communication and performance. Panelists and breakout presenters are drawn entirely from the Chamber's own membership, recognized leaders and subject matter experts in their fields.

In six years, the Summit has grown into the premier business conference in the region.

Why it matters: a regional business conference built almost entirely on its own membership's expertise landing a national-caliber keynote speaker says something about how far that membership has grown.

ABR Houston has built its business on saying no to anything that isn't European. Owner Alex Noll and his team at 8498 Miller Road specialize in BMW, Rolls-Royce, Mini Cooper, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, and Mercedes-Benz, covering everything from oil changes to full diagnostic and mechanical repairs. The shop has grown enough to open a second location in Katy, with a third already in the works.

The question Noll hears most is "how much?" His answer doesn't apologize for the number. He says the specialized software, manufacturer-specific training, and genuine parts these vehicles require cost more than an all-makes shop, and customers comparing on price alone are usually comparing to a shop that can't actually fix the problem.

Why it matters: for owners who see their European car as an investment, the difference between a shop that guesses and one that specializes is usually the car's long-term health.
