Every holiday season, Lighting of the Doves pulls around 20,000 people into The Woodlands for one night: traditional and international performances, holiday light displays, kids' play areas, and strolling entertainment, all building to Santa Claus arriving by sleigh down The Woodlands Waterway and a fireworks finale.

The Woodlands Township announced Sept. 18 that vendor applications for this year's event opened that day at 5 p.m. and close Friday, October 30. The event itself runs Saturday, November 21, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Town Green Park.

Sponsorship spots are open too, from Supporting Sponsor up through Presenting Festival Sponsor, with prices running $1,500 to $15,000 and only one company allowed per category.

Why it matters: a vendor call in September is the first real marker that the holiday season in The Woodlands now has a date on the calendar.

The American Heart Association kicked off its 2026-2027 year on September 9 with a celebration at Lotus of The Woodlands, bringing together sponsors, event chairs, and supporters to meet the incoming leadership team and mark a year of fundraising and awareness work in Montgomery County.

The organization laid out its full calendar at the event. The Montgomery County Heart Walk returns October 31 at Northshore Park, followed by the Origin Bank Open golf tournament on November 17 at Highland Pines Golf Club. Early next year brings the Paul "Bear" Bryant Awards on January 27, Heart of The Woodlands (the event long known as the Heart Ball) on February 20 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott, and the Go Red For Women Luncheon on May 14, also at the Waterway Marriott.

Several volunteers were named to lead the year's events: Keaton Kainer chairs the 2026 Heart Walk, Cassandra and Kyle Mays co-chair the 2027 Heart of The Woodlands, Michelle Little chairs Go Red For Women, and Sarah Rados leads the Circle of Red. Shannon Regan was recognized as this year's Leader of Impact nominee.

Why it matters: five dates on the calendar means five chances for a community to show up for a cause that touches nearly every family sooner or later.

Amanda Hofstra has spent eleven years selling real estate across Montgomery County and North Harris County, and her team at Hofstra Home Group with All City Real Estate, based at 4 Waterway Square Place in The Woodlands, has built its reputation on covering more ground than most. Beyond the usual buying and selling, the team works with first-time buyers, relocators, first responders, new construction, downsizing sellers, land deals, small investors, and rentals, an area Hofstra says few local teams take on with real attention.

Ask Amanda what trips buyers up most, and she doesn't hesitate: not getting pre-approved before they start looking. Her team hands new clients a list of trusted local lenders and walks them through that step before a single house gets shown. Sellers get a similar dose of straight talk. Rather than a generic pitch, Amanda builds each one a market breakdown specific to their neighborhood and zip code, pulling from the past 12 and 24 months and what she's hearing from other agents and her brokerage. Conditions have gotten harder on both sides of the table lately, she says, and she'd rather tell clients that plainly than oversell them.

The team grew this year with two new agents, Diana Northup from Magnolia and Lacy Scott from Liberty Hill, part of Amanda's move toward a mentorship model. She calls herself "an agent's agent," open to working alongside other realtors rather than around them. That community-first streak shows up outside the office too: on September 26, the team is hosting a public fall festival at Moss & Co. in Montgomery with local sponsors, games, and treats for kids, and every client gets a handwritten Christmas ornament at year's end. Hofstra and her team live in Conroe, Magnolia, and Montgomery themselves, not just serving those towns but living in them.

Why it matters: the single step Amanda says trips up the most buyers, getting pre-approved before house hunting, is also the easiest one to fix before it costs anyone a house they wanted.
