The Junior League of The Woodlands held its annual Find the Good Day event, honoring the nonprofit partners, educators, and volunteers behind its community programs. The numbers behind one of them tell the real story: its H.A.P.P.Y. food-security program has grown from serving 20 schools in 2023-24 to 57 schools this year, eliminating its waitlist along the way.

The program now provides weekend food assistance to about 600 children every week. In 2025 alone, volunteers packed and delivered more than 20,000 food bags and distributed 57.7 tons of food.

Township Chairman Brad Bailey recognized the group's volunteer work with a special proclamation. "Find the Good Day is about recognizing the people who show up every day to serve others and strengthen our community," said JLTW President Shannon Regan.

Why it matters: the difference between a program feeding 20 schools and one feeding 57 is measured in kids who don't go hungry on the weekend.

Cristian Ollison graduated from Magnolia West High School in 2023. Today he's an aviation machinist's mate with the Navy's VP-10 "Red Lancers," one of the oldest patrol squadrons in the fleet, working on P-8A Poseidon aircraft that patrol the world's oceans.

Ollison joined the Navy three years ago after hearing his uncle's stories about traveling the world, wanting to see something beyond Magnolia for a while. He credits the area for the work ethic that got him there. "It's a blue-collar area," he said. "It teaches you how to be grateful for the things you have and how to work hard for the things you want."

He's since been named plane captain of the year and meritoriously promoted to petty officer 3rd class, honors that come with real trust attached. "It's their lives on the plane," he said of his aircrew and pilot. He credited his wife Tinley, his parents, and his mentor Petty Officer 1st Class Jordan Long for getting him there.

Why it matters: small towns like Magnolia send their kids into some of the most demanding jobs in the country, and most of that service happens quietly, far from home.

Roland Lemus built Le Box Storage in Conroe around one idea: bring the storage unit to the customer instead of the other way around.
