Tomball ISD Lowers Its Tax Rate and Sets a New School in Motion

Tomball ISD's board approved a lower property tax rate for fiscal year 2026-27 at its regular meeting earlier this month. The new total is $1.0558 per $100 valuation, made up of $0.6598 for maintenance and operations and $0.3960 for interest and sinking. That is $0.0071 lower than the prior year.
The board also approved a contract with ICI Construction to build the new Tomball Intermediate School, paid for with Bond 2025 funds. Construction cost is $49.27 million, with a project budget of $59 million. Bond 2025 is the $429 million package passed in May 2025 for school and technology upgrades.
One more contract was raised. The one for the Tomball High School Career and Technology facility, built by Millennium Project Solutions, goes from $8.63 million to $8.73 million using Bond 2021 funds.
Why it matters: bond money passed in 2025 is now turning into a signed construction contract for a new school, and the tax rate came down a little at the same time.

Registration for the 10 for Texas Is 10% Off Through Sept. 29

The Woodlands Township Parks & Recreation Department is offering 10% off registration for the Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas, the 3.1 Armadillo Run 5K and the One 4 Texas Kids' Fun Run. The promo code is FALLFORRUNNING26, and it works through Sept. 29.
Race day is Saturday, Oct. 10, at Northshore Park, 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive. The kids' fun run starts at 7:00 a.m., the 5K at 7:30, the 10-mile wheelchair division at 7:35 and the 10-mile at 7:40, with awards at 9:30 a.m. A post-race party with food, drinks and live music follows.
The 10 for Texas is USATF sanctioned with a certified 10-mile course, and the 10-mile and 5K are chip-timed. The One 4 Texas is an untimed, non-competitive 1-mile event for kids. Spots are limited for all three races, and caps are in place.
Why it matters: it is one morning with three distances, from an untimed kids' mile to a certified 10-mile, and the discount window is short.

This Free Tai Chi Class Has Kept Students Coming Back for 12 Years
Sesco Saegusa has spent 17 years guiding seniors through Tai Chi with Woodlands Tai Chi, a cooperative of volunteers that offers every class completely free. The program serves Northern Harris and Southern Montgomery County, and some students have stayed for nearly 12 years.
Many newcomers arrive expecting something else. "They consider Tai Chi to be a dance or very easy," Saegusa explains. In reality it is an exercise, and a little harder than they anticipate.
A new beginner class starts every four months and runs 16 weeks on a curriculum Saegusa follows strictly. Classes meet at Woodlands Methodist Church in The Woodlands, at Kevin Brady Community Center, and through the Lone Star College ALL program. Why it matters: a free class that some students have kept coming to for nearly 12 years is a rare find, and it is open to anyone interested.
