Hundreds gathered at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott on Sept. 19 for Inspiration Ranch's 18th annual Denim & Diamonds Gala, trading tuxes and gowns for jeans and boots for a night of dinner, auctions, and a saloon-themed afterparty. Jason Alexander ran the live auction.

Inspiration Ranch runs a 40-acre property in Magnolia offering equine therapy and other equine-assisted services to people facing physical, emotional, cognitive, and social challenges, including families raising kids with special needs. More than 100 children and youth ride there each week, working with certified instructors and mental health professionals on goals from mobility to confidence to communication.

President and CEO MG Tindall told the crowd the ranch is nearly out of room after seven years at the property and has plans to grow. The evening also honored Amerigo's Grille and Carol and Michael Watford for their years of support.

The past three galas have each raised more than $650,000 for the ranch's scholarships and therapy programs, letting local families get care regardless of what they can afford. Why it matters: for a family who's watched a nonverbal rider say his first words in the saddle, one night of jeans and boots keeps that kind of progress within reach for the next family too.

Oak Ridge North City Council voted 5-1 on Sept. 14 to approve a new ordinance, effective immediately, requiring short-term rental owners to keep a current address on file. Owners who don't comply lose the ability to reapply for a permit for a full year.

The move builds on a 2024 ordinance that barred new short-term rentals in the city and placed limits on existing ones, after officials raised concerns about renters unfamiliar with local noise and traffic rules. The newer rule also touches parking, trash collection, and occupancy limits.

City Attorney Brandon Morris said the point is putting the responsibility on owners, not the city: if an owner doesn't keep their address updated, notices sent there are on them to track. Why it matters: it's one more small rule aimed at keeping short-term rentals from becoming a headache for the neighbors living next door to them.

Dr. Betsy Koickel wants urgent care to feel less like a clinic and more like your neighborhood. As Interim Medical Director of Memorial Hermann-GoHealth Urgent Care, she still practices in her own community, and says running into patients at a Friday night football game or the grocery store is part of what makes the model work.

Memorial Hermann-GoHealth is a 50:50 partnership: Memorial Hermann oversees clinical quality and care, GoHealth runs day-to-day center operations. Locally, families have the Benders Landing center off Riley Fuzzel Road near Kroger Marketplace in Spring. Select locations, including two just extended in Katy and Sawyer Heights, stay open until midnight, and patients can check in online, walk in, or book a virtual visit. Because it runs through Memorial Hermann, patients also get priority referrals to specialists, and providers can pull up electronic medical records directly.

A 2025 survey found 39 percent of Houston residents say they're more likely to use urgent care because new centers have opened nearby, well above the 28 percent national average, and 57 percent say they seek care at the very first sign of illness. Why it matters: for Woodlands-area families, that's a same-day option for the sprained ankle or 102-degree fever that can't wait for an appointment but doesn't need an ER.
