Good morning, Woodlands.

It's the last day of September, and the weekend is already in sight. Bar Bludorn opens its doors Friday on The Waterway, two seniors at The Woodlands High School wore the Homecoming crowns, and a Conroe music venue has three food trucks and a patio under the oaks. Rain is possible today, so keep an umbrella close.

Glad you're here.

Bar Bludorn opens Friday, Oct. 2, on The Waterway, with the first seatings at 5 p.m. It takes over the former Baker Street pub space. An earlier issue listed Sept. 26, and the opening is now Oct. 2.

Inside, there are three dining and bar experiences: a large curved bar, a main dining room with an open kitchen, and a private dining room for up to 40. Bar seating doesn't need a reservation, and reservations for the rest go through OpenTable. The restaurant is closed Sundays and Mondays.

The menu has a few local twists. There's a roast chicken served with four sauces, with chickens from Greener Pastures, an organic farm in Elgin. Oysters come grilled with salsa matcha or michelada-style, and a lobster salad beignet takes the place of the country ham version. A cooking demo follows on Oct. 9 at the Williams Sonoma store in Hughes Landing, with a tasting at 6 p.m.

Chef Aaron Bludorn says he wants Bar Bludorn to be a fixture of the community, a true neighborhood restaurant.

Why it matters: the chef's stated goal is a true neighborhood restaurant, one where you can drop in for a drink or settle in for a full meal.

The Woodlands High Crowns Lillie McMullin and Max Mitchell

Lillie McMullin and Max Mitchell were crowned Homecoming Queen and King at The Woodlands High School on Friday, Sept. 25. The crowning happened at halftime of the game against Caney Creek at Woodforest Bank Stadium, and main campus principal Dennis Muehsler presented the crowns.

Lillie is a member of the Highsteppers, where she is president of the social committee, as well as National Honor Society and Rho Kappa. She plans to study genetics at Auburn, with a minor in biomedical sciences, on a pre-med track.

Max is a senior outside linebacker who plans to study mechanical engineering at Texas A&M.

Both were escorted by their parents.

Why it matters: it gave classmates another reason to celebrate Homecoming weekend, and honored two seniors from different parts of campus life.

This Conroe Music Venue is the Buc-ee's of Live Music

The Table at Madeley, at 316 Madeley Street in Conroe, has been open for four and a half years. Owner Frank Jackson runs live music there Thursday, Friday and Saturday, plus some Sundays.

October's lineup includes Cam Allen, Cole Stevens and Sundance Head, the winner of Season 11 of NBC's The Voice.

Food comes from three food trucks: The Fix by PR (barbecue and tacos), Gabino's (wood fire pizza) and Grapeleaf Mediterranean Truck. There's also a full open bar, dining for up to 60 and a picnic patio under the oaks. The venue also hosts a breast cancer benefit, Saving Ta-Tas at The Table, for My Hope Chest, with the Conroe Fire Fighters Association.

Why it matters: live music, three food trucks and a picnic patio make for an easy night out in Conroe.

🌳 Woodlands Trivia

Part of George Mitchell's original design still holds today: Howard Hughes maintains 50-foot forested buffers along major roadways and 30-foot forest preserves along collector streets throughout the community.

What did the ocean say to the beach? Nothing, it just waved.
