Good morning, The Woodlands.

Central Park at Market Street glowing pink tonight, Hybrid 7 on the lawn, neighbors stopping for a photo near The Audrey entrance to honor people they love who have faced breast cancer. That is what is happening from 6 to 8:30 p.m., free. Houston Methodist is lighting up the whole property through the end of October.

October has a way of bringing this community back to what matters. There is also a Whataburger opening Sunday and a place called Chopshop that is decidedly not a steakhouse.

Glad you’re here,

Tonight at Market Street, something a little different is happening alongside the usual Fall Concert Series crowd. Starting at 6 p.m., Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at The Woodlands and Market Street are co-hosting “Light It Up Pink,” a free community evening dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While Hybrid 7 performs on the lawn, attendees can stop by a photo opportunity near The Audrey entrance to honor survivors, families, and caregivers. Anyone who shows up gets a pink tote bag and a light-up baton.

The evening kicks off a month-long display across Market Street’s Central Park and several nearby buildings, which will glow pink through October. Scented sleep masks will be available at the Concierge desk and at select retailers all month long, and signage throughout the property will share breast cancer facts from Houston Methodist, with a focus on the importance of annual mammograms for women.

If you’ve been putting off a mammogram, this is a good nudge. Houston Methodist Breast Care Center at The Woodlands has appointments available at houstonmethodist.org/mammogram-woodlands or by calling 346.356.PINK (7465).

Why it matters: Breast Cancer Awareness Month means something different when your neighbors show up in pink on a Thursday night, and tonight’s free event at Market Street makes it easy to be part of that.

Whataburger to open in Shenandoah on October 5

The new Whataburger at 8800 Six Pines Drive has an official opening date: this Sunday, October 5, at 11 a.m. The location sits at the corner of Six Pines and Research Forest, and Visit Shenandoah confirmed the news on Facebook.

The first customers to place orders in person, both in the drive-thru lane and at the dining room counter, will win a year’s worth of Whataburger. Previous winners of that prize are not eligible. The next 100 in line will take home free Whataburger swag.

You can look up the full menu and location details at locations.whataburger.com before heading over.

Why it matters: A new Whataburger on Six Pines Drive adds another anchor to one of the area’s busiest corners, and if you’ve ever wanted a legitimate reason to show up somewhere at 11 a.m. on a Sunday, this is it.

Why Original Chopshop Isn’t a Steakhouse, or a Hair Salon

Original Chopshop The Woodlands

The name throws people off every time. People walk in expecting steaks or a trim, and find bowls, salads, sandwiches, acai, protein shakes, fresh juices, and all-day breakfast instead, with everything from steak to tofu on the menu. The concept behind Original Chopshop is simple: every ingredient is chopped fresh in the shop each day, which is exactly where the name came from. Speed and nutrition are the point, and the two don’t have to conflict.

The restaurant is approaching 30 locations across six markets, including Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Phoenix, Tucson, College Station, and Atlanta. The Woodlands location, at 10720 Kuykendahl Rd Ste D, carries the same lineup and the same approach. The staff walks first-time guests through the menu, which covers every part of the day: breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, and everything between.

Starting in November, the restaurant will run a holiday loyalty campaign with an instant-win twist. Every in-shop visit during the campaign window earns a reward through the app, ranging from a free cookie to $5 or $10 off, or even a free bowl, salad, or sandwich. Full menu at originalchopshop.com/menu, or call (346) 771-6862.

Why it matters: As The Woodlands keeps welcoming new concepts, it’s worth knowing which ones are built around everyday people and everyday eating, not just a trend.

🌳 Woodlands Trivia

McCullough Junior High is named for J.L. “Mac” McCullough, who spent 50 years in Conroe ISD as a teacher, football coach, principal, and administrator before the district ever put his name on a building.
