Good morning, The Woodlands.

By the end of the War of the Woods, it was just the students.

The band had left. The cheer squads had left. Most fans were in their cars waiting for the rain to stop. And the Highlanders were still out there, up 39-0, with the student section providing the only noise left in the stadium.

That kind of loyalty is built over time, in moments nobody photographs.

This week also brought the first fine arts scholarship from the Pavilion and LSC-Montgomery, and a 26th annual luncheon from a group that has shown up every October for 26 years. Different stories. Same idea underneath.

Glad you’re here,

Two Woodlands Icons Are Now Funding Fine Arts Students at LSC

Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Creative Arts Department and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion are partnering to offer the first scholarships of their kind for fine arts and live entertainment technology students in the area.

The partnership launches two awards. The first provides $1,000 during the 2026-27 academic year, split as $500 in the fall semester and $500 in the spring. A second, endowed scholarship begins awarding $1,250 annually starting in Fall 2027. Students in all fine arts disciplines are eligible, including art, dance, music, theatre, kinesiology, humanities, live entertainment technology, and visual communications.

“The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Arts Scholarships will be truly transformative for their recipients,” said Dr. Michael Walsh, LSC-Montgomery’s dean of Creative Arts and Education. Jeff Young, the Pavilion’s president and CEO, put it simply: making sure financial barriers don’t stand in the way of talent, passion, and potential.

Why it matters: two of the area’s most recognized institutions are combining resources to open careers in the arts for students who might otherwise be priced out, and the endowed component means this partnership is built to last.

Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health Marks Its 26th Year

The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center hosted the 26th annual Memorial Hermann In the Pink of Health luncheon on Thursday, bringing together community supporters during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The group has spent 26 years raising funds to promote early detection, provide free mammograms to underserved communities, and support the Canopy Cancer Survivorship Center at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center.

The luncheon opened with a champagne reception, luxury raffle, boutique, and education exhibits. Emcee Dana Tyson led the program, with Justin Kendrick, senior vice president of Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center and Northeast Hospital, welcoming guests. Anne E. Neeson, executive vice president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Foundation, reflected on the group’s 26 years of community impact. The 2026 event was co-chaired by Jamie Bolt and Nicole Preston.

Stephanie Parke Mason, a dentist and ovarian cancer survivor, shared her personal story with the crowd. Keynote speaker Shayla Rivera followed with a message about the power of words to encourage and lift people through uncertain times.

Why it matters: 26 years into this tradition, In the Pink of Health is still filling a room and delivering resources that reach people who often can’t access cancer screenings any other way.

The Woodlands Wins the War of the Woods 39-7 in a Monsoon

The Woodlands Highlanders won the 2026 War of the Woods against the College Park Cavaliers 39-7 on Friday night, a game defined more by weather than any single play. Multiple lightning delays pushed the start time back, and monsoon-level rain persisted for most of the evening, eventually driving the band, cheer squads, and ROTC members off the field after halftime.

The Highlanders led 20-0 after the first quarter and 33-0 at the half, dominating both sides of the ball in conditions that made any offense difficult. The second half was shortened, and the Cavaliers scored only in the final minutes before officials ended the game early. The win puts the Highlanders in a strong position to compete for the District 13-6A title.

The fans who stayed have a story to tell. By the end, the Highlander student section was the only real source of noise in a stadium that had otherwise emptied out, the kind of atmosphere only a rivalry game played through a storm can produce.

Why it matters: the War of the Woods is the biggest rivalry game in The Woodlands each fall, and this year’s result puts the Highlanders in the driver’s seat in district.

This Spring Gym Bets You’re Wrong About What CrossFit Feels Like

TTR CrossFit sits on Richards Road in Spring, and it starts from a premise most people get wrong: CrossFit is not for elite athletes only. “A mistake is that many people think CrossFit is an intimidating sport,” says Valeria Duque, who helps lead the community at TTR CrossFit. “What CrossFit is really about is welcoming every single person that just is looking for a healthier way of living.”

The gym offers two training tracks. CrossFit workouts are scaled to each athlete, whether someone is walking in for the first time or has years of competition experience. HYROX is the newer addition: a fitness race format that has drawn a growing community of competitors, with around 30 athletes currently preparing for an upcoming Dallas event. HYROX classes run Monday through Friday.

Beyond physical training, TTR CrossFit runs a monthly Bible study called Faith and Fitness on the first Saturday of each month, and a Sunday morning running group meets weekly at Northshore Park at 8 a.m. Both programs reflect a philosophy that community is what keeps people coming back after the first few workouts.

Why it matters: in a corner of Spring where gym options lean toward big-box formats or boutique studios, TTR CrossFit has built something that looks different by design, and it shows in the variety of people on the floor.

🌿 Woodlands Trivia

When George Mitchell held a family naming contest for his new community, it was his daughter Pamela who came up with “The Woodlands,” the name everyone agreed was best. Before that, the name belonged to the Mitchell family’s private ranch off SH 149, which they later renamed Cook’s Branch.
