Good morning, The Woodlands.

An 18-year-old from Carlton Woods now represents 5,300 registered voters. That takes a moment to land.

Today's issue is full of builders: a family that rewarded 46 years of loyalty with $40 million, a Tomball pasta maker quietly supplying 160 restaurants across Texas, and a recent Woodlands grad who's not waiting for someday.

Glad you’re here,

The Woodlands-Area Water Family That Gave $40M to Its Employees

Quadvest owners Simon Sequeira and Mandi Brown

The family behind Quadvest spent nearly five decades building one of Texas' largest privately owned water and wastewater utilities, serving rapidly growing communities throughout the Greater Houston region. When they sold the company's assets to H2O America's Texas subsidiaries in a deal valued at $540 million, they did not simply close the chapter and move on.

They distributed $40 million of it to the employees who built the company alongside them.

CEO Simon Sequeira put it plainly: "You can put a price on a company. You can't put a price on the people who built it." For workers throughout the Quadvest workforce, the distribution means mortgages paid down, retirement plans reconsidered, college educations made possible. The company was founded in 1978 by Gary Sequeira and his father-in-law Odell Vaught, and the deal with H2O America closed on October 1.

Why it matters: in a region that has seen a lot of large transactions lately, it is rare to see one where the family behind the company treats loyalty as a debt worth repaying.

The Woodlands Teen Who Represents 5,300 Registered Voters

Neftali Cruz, Precinct 78 Chair, The Woodlands

Neftali Cruz graduated from The Woodlands High School, grew up in Carlton Woods, and has professional experience in construction project management. This month, at 18, he became the youngest elected Republican Precinct Chair in Montgomery County history. His precinct, Precinct 78, covers Carlton Woods and Sterling Ridge and includes more than 5,300 registered voters.

He is not staying put. Cruz is currently on a countywide tour throughout Montgomery County, meeting with young people who are exploring civic life. His message: you do not need a title to start participating. Volunteering, showing up to a community meeting, or just talking to someone already involved are all real entry points.

That message reaches a regional audience this week. Cruz has been invited as a Special Guest at the Texas Youth Summit, taking place October 9 and 10 at The Woodlands Marriott. The event brings together young people interested in leadership and community engagement, and it gives Cruz another opportunity to make the case that the time to get involved is right now.

Why it matters: The Woodlands has always had a strong civic culture, and watching the next generation step into it, not someday but at 18, is the kind of thing worth paying attention to.

This Tomball Storefront Feeds 160 Restaurants Across Texas

Della Casa Pasta

From a storefront on Hufsmith-Kohrville Road in Tomball, Luisa Obando's Della Casa Pasta supplies fresh pasta to roughly 160 restaurants across Texas. Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, the reach goes far beyond what the building suggests from the outside. As Obando puts it: "They don't know how big and amazing we are when they see us from the road."

The business runs on two tracks. On the production side, the kitchen turns out fresh pasta in about 25 varieties, supplying restaurants that depend on it week after week. On the retail side, a small Italian market carries those same pastas alongside imported DOP products. The DCP Bake Shop adds coffee, pastries, and sandwiches made with imported cold cuts, the kind of stop that turns a quick errand into a reason to stay.

What keeps the quality consistent is that Obando refuses to step back from the work. "We have to be involved in the production," she says. Customers who walk in for pasta often leave knowing more than they expected: the staff guides people on which cuts work with which sauces and what wines pair well. A second location is in the works, and holiday meal packages are on the way.

Why it matters: a family-run pasta maker quietly supplying the Texas restaurant industry from a Tomball storefront is exactly the kind of business worth knowing about.

🌳 Woodlands Trivia

The McDonald's in Panther Creek became one of the highest-volume locations in all of Texas despite never displaying the iconic golden arches above the roofline. George Mitchell required all signage to stay below the tree canopy, so the arches were kept below the canopy line, yet the restaurant still drew enormous business.

🤠 Talkin' Texan

"When the east wind blows hard three days straight, all the devils in hell can't keep it from raining." Translation: old weather-reading, and it holds up more often than it has any right to.

🚿 Shower Thought

Nobody ever looks around a parking lot to see if anyone noticed them mess up a parking job, yet everyone does it after they mess up a parking job.

😂 Dad Joke

What do you call a dinosaur that crashes his car? Tyrannosaurus wrecks.
