Good morning, The Woodlands.

A gluten-free deli on Sawdust Road is opening a second spot in Creekside. A library in Magnolia is getting 3D printers and embroidery machines next month. And this afternoon, a free trunk or treat starts at 4 PM at Kevin Brady.

Three different things. One pattern: this community keeps building something.

Glad you’re here,

Eat This Fast & Fresh Is Opening a Second Location in Creekside

A local deli known for cooking everything from scratch in a dedicated gluten-free kitchen is expanding. Eat This Fast & Fresh, a women-owned business currently at 442 Sawdust Road, is preparing to open a second location at 8422 Cinnamon Run in Creekside. The new spot will be the brand's first self-service concept: customers walk in, choose from a selection of ready-to-reheat meals, and head home.

The meals are made with avocado oil, no seed oils, and no gluten, prepared in a dedicated kitchen and sold chilled. The Creekside location joins the original deli, which stays open. Owner Nezi Whiteman has not yet announced an opening date or hours but says updates are coming once preparations are complete.

Why it matters: A locally owned option for clean, grab-and-go meals expanding deeper into The Woodlands signals that demand for this kind of no-fuss, health-conscious food is real enough to grow.

A Second Innovation Space Is Coming to Magnolia This November

Photo: Montgomery County Memorial Library System

The Montgomery County Memorial Library System is bringing its Innovate@MCMLS program to a second location. The Malcolm Purvis Library at 510 Melton St in Magnolia will host a grand opening on Monday, November 9 from 3 to 4 PM, becoming the second MCMLS branch to offer a hands-on Innovation Space after the Kevin Brady Library launched one in February 2026.

The new space includes 3D printers, a large-format cutting machine, a digital embroidery machine, an interactive touch wall, and STEM kits covering robotics, coding, and electronics. It is designed for children, teens, and adults. MEDC Board Chairman Robert Franklin called it a doorway to new skills and potential careers. MCMLS Executive Director Dr. Janna Hoglund and library manager Kallie Yoars will be at the grand opening. Use of the Cricut and embroidery machines is free; 3D printing carries fees. Orientations begin November 10, and reservations can be made by calling (936) 538-8329.

Why it matters: Bringing hands-on creative technology to Magnolia gives families and adults access to tools they would not otherwise have, and that is exactly what a public library system is for.

Photo: Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center

Commissioner Ritch Wheeler and the Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center are hosting a free Halloween event this afternoon at the Kevin Brady Community Center. The Creepy Crawlies Trunk or Treat runs from 4 to 7 PM at 2250 Buckthorne Place and is open to families and kids of all ages.

Come in costume for an evening of trick-or-treating, candy, and Halloween activities. No tickets, no registration, no charge.

Why it matters: A free, community-run Halloween event put together by Precinct 3 and the Nature Center is the kind of thing that makes a neighborhood feel like one.

16 Grams of Protein an Ounce, Zero Sugar: Spring's New Biltong Shop

Photo: Angus Biltong

Most people in The Woodlands have never tried biltong. Maureen Marais is working to change that. At Angus Biltong, her shop at 255 Sawdust Road in Spring, she makes a South African-style cured and air-dried beef that she describes simply: meat cured and air-dried with no extra sugars added. The result is 16 grams of protein per ounce, zero added sugar, no smoke and no heat. It is different from American jerky in both method and taste, and it is drawing two very distinct groups of customers.

One group is South Africans in the area looking for a taste of home. The other is the American health and fitness crowd, who are paying close attention to what is on the nutrition label. Storage is the most common question Marais gets: moister cuts go in the fridge, while the drier chili bites can stay on the shelf after opening. No artificial preservatives means the product is honest about what it contains.

Two things are on the horizon. A second location is in the works in Katy, and USDA certification is nearly complete. Once certified, the business can sell wholesale, with gyms and bars as the primary targets. Both make sense: biltong's numbers are compelling for anyone who pays attention to what they eat. More information at www.angusbiltong.com or by calling 281-719-8577.

Why it matters: A South African tradition landing in Spring and growing fast enough to open a second location says something about both the cultural range of this community and the appetite for cleaner food options that actually taste like something.

🌳 Woodlands Trivia

George Mitchell's original 1971 master plan for The Woodlands called for 15,000 acres, 150,000 residents, and 50,000 on-site jobs. At the time, critics doubted whether anyone would commute north of Houston to live in the woods. The plan largely proved them wrong.

🤠 Talkin' Texan

"You're so low you have to look up to see hell." Translation: about as low and no-good as a person can get.

🚿 Shower Thought

The older you get, the more you realize that "having it all figured out" is something everyone else is just much better at pretending to have done.
